Kiara Advani's Mother-In-Law Hugs And Cheers For Her At Fashion Show. Watch

Kiara Advani was the definition of Barbie as she walked the runway for designers Falguni and Shane Peacock at the India Couture Week in Delhi on Tuesday night. She was the showstopper for designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock. Kiara's husband Sidharth Malhotra couldn't make it to the show but his mother Rimma Malhotra (who stays in Delhi) made up for his absence and how. While Kiara Advani's runway walk was perfection personified, it was her mother-in-law Rimma Malhotra cheering for the actress from the front row that has our heart. Rimma Malhotra was also seen blowing kisses as Kiara walked the ramp. Later, after the show, she gave Kiara Advani a big hug. The video is trending a great deal social media.

Here's the video that we are talking about:

Just some stunning pictures of Kiara Advani on thee ramp from last night's fashion show.

The one with the muse and the couturiers. Picture-perfect.

Kiara Advani married her Shershaah co-star Sidharth Malhotra in February in Jaisalmer's Suryagarh Palace. Posting their wedding pictures on social media, the couple wrote: "Ab humari permanent booking hogayi hai. We seek your blessings and love on our journey ahead."

In terms of work, Kiara Advani will next be seen with Ram Charan in Game Changer. She recently starred in the moderately successful Satyaprem Ki Katha, co-starring Kartik Aaryan. Microsoft Ramps Up Spending to Meet AI Demand as Quarterly Revenue Rises to $56.2 Billion

Microsoft on Tuesday laid out an aggressive spending plan to meet demand for its new artificial intelligence services after surpassing Wall Street estimates for fiscal fourth-quarter revenue and profit.

Costs rose sharply as Microsoft built new data centers to support AI, and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood said on a conference call with analysts the company's capital expenditures would continue rising each quarter throughout fiscal 2024.

Shares fell about 4 percent in after-hours trade.

Wall Street is looking at how generative AI services may benefit Microsoft, which secured an early lead with investments in OpenAI, owner of the popular ChatGPT service.

Microsoft is weaving AI into its own products, such as the $30 (roughly Rs. 2,460)-a-month "Copilot" assistant for its Microsoft 365 service that can summarize a day's worth of emails into a quick update. It is also aiming to sell cloud computing services that other firms will use to build AI services.

Microsoft's results show heavy spending on AI services ahead of commensurate revenue growth.

While its Azure sales growth slightly exceeded market expectations, Microsoft's quarterly capital expenditures hit the highest single-quarter total since at least its fiscal 2016. The company is battling other cloud providers for a limited supply of chips from Nvidia, whose graphics processing units are essential for creating AI products and services.

CFO Hood told analysts that despite Microsoft's increased spending in fiscal 2024, operating profit margins would grow slightly after adjusting for the effects of an accounting rule change. "The real focus here is being able to be aggressive in meeting the demand curve," Hood said.

It will take time to make money, Hood said, noting that Copilot is not ready for general release and any revenues from the product are likely to happen toward the second half of fiscal 2024.

Microsoft forecast Azure revenue growth of 25 percent-26 percent in constant currency for the fiscal first quarter, compared with an estimate of 25.6 percent from Visible Alpha that does not adjust for foreign exchange rates.

For the segment that includes Azure, Microsoft forecast a first-quarter revenue range with a midpoint of $23.45 billion (roughly Rs. 1,92,313 crore). Analysts on average estimated $23.55 billion (roughly Rs. 1,93,133 crore) according to Refinitiv data.

The midpoint of its first-quarter forecast for the segment containing Office was $18.15 billion (roughly Rs. 1,48,839 crore), compared with analysts' consensus estimate of $18.08 billion (roughly Rs. 1,48,259 crore).

Microsoft's forecast for its Windows segment had a midpoint of $12.7 billion (roughly Rs. 1,04,145 crore), below analysts' estimate of $13.14 billion (roughly Rs. 1,07,765 crore).

Revenue in the fiscal fourth quarter that ended June 30 rose to $56.2 billion (roughly Rs. 4,60,924 crore), beating the consensus estimate of $55.5 billion (roughly Rs. 4,55,183 crore) according to Refinitiv. Net income was $2.69 (roughly Rs. 220) per share, above the $2.55 (roughly Rs. 209) average estimate.

Microsoft's Intelligent Cloud unit, which houses the Azure cloud computing platform, increased its revenue to $24 billion (roughly Rs. 1,96,838 crore) slightly topped expectations according to Refinitiv data.

Azure revenue rose 26 percent, beating a 25.2 percent growth estimate from Visible Alpha.

Microsoft does not break out a precise quarterly revenue figure for Azure, the part of its business best situated to capitalize on booming interest in AI. But Chief Executive Satya Nadella said on a conference call that Azure accounted for more than half of the $110 billion (roughly Rs. 9,02,165 crore) for "Microsoft Cloud" in fiscal 2023, putting Azure sales at $55 billion or more and revealing the size of the business for the first time.

The company is still navigating a PC business slump with sales, including those of its Windows operating system, falling to $13.9 billion (roughly Rs. 1,13,997 crore). The segment with the LinkedIn social network and its Office productivity software increased sales to $18.3 billion (roughly Rs. 1,50,074 crore). Both segments slightly topped the average analyst estimate, according to Refinitiv data.

Capital expenditures jumped to $10.7 billion (roughly Rs. 8,77,507 crore) from $7.8 billion (roughly Rs. 63,966 crore) in the fiscal third quarter, after the company told investors spending would rise as it builds out data centers for AI work.

Microsoft has started integrating AI functionality across its products such as Azure, Microsoft 365, GitHub, and several developer tools.

Jaya Bachchan Vs Paparazzi, Part Infinity: "I'm Not Deaf," She Snaps

Jaya Bachchan attended the screening of her upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in Mumbai last night. The veteran actress, who doesn't usually get along with the paparazzi, lashed out at the paparazzi after they called her for a photo-op session at the film screening. "I'm not deaf," she told them furiously and walked away. At the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani screening, son Abhishek and daughter Shweta formed Jaya Bachchan's cheer squad. See pictures of them here:

We did managed to get a picture of Jaya Bachchan smiling though.

This isn't the first time Jaya Bachchan's interaction with the paparazzi has become a talking point. In January this year, Jaya Bachchan was pictured with husband Amitabh Bachchan, when she schooled a paparazzo at an airport and said, "Please don't take my picture. You don't understand English?" She added angrily, "Aise logon ko naukri se nikaal deni chahiye (such people should be fired)."

Earlier this year, Jaya Bachchan surprised everyone when she happily chatted with the paparazzi at the launch of Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla's Mera Noor Hai Mashhoor. She was all smiles at the event and she said, "Dekha, kitna smile kar rahi hoon (see how much I am smiling)." The video obviously went viral. ICYMI, this is what we are talking about:

Jaya Bachchan explained her equation with the paparazzi in her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda's podcast. "I hate it. I despise it. I despise the people who interfere in your personal life and fill their stomachs by selling those products. I hate it, I'm disgusted with such people. I always tell them, I say, 'Aapko sharam nahi aati hai (Don't you feel ashamed?)." In a viral video last year, when a paparazzo stumbled while clicking Jaya Bachchan's pictures, she told him, "Serves you right. I hope you double up and fall."

Jaya Bachchan married Amitabh Bachchan in June 1973 and they have featured together in films such as Zanjeer, Sholay, Abhimaan, Mili, Chupke Chukpe and Silsila, among many others. Jaya Bachchan appeared only in a handful of films after the birth of Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan. In more recent years, Big B and Jaya appeared together in movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and the 2016 film Ki And Ka.

Jaya Bachchan will next be seen in Karan Johar's directorial Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film also stars Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, among other stars. The film is slated to release this Friday.

Apple Faces $1 Billion Class Action Lawsuit by UK App Developers over App Store Fees

Apple on Tuesday found itself the target of a $1 billion (roughly Rs. 8,200 crore) class action lawsuit brought by more than 1,500 apps developers in the UK over its App Store fees.

Apple's services business, which includes the App Store, has seen revenues grow at a rapid pace in the last few years and now hovers around $20 billion (roughly Rs. 1,63,400 crore) per quarter.

However, the commissions of 15 percent to 30 percent that the company charges some app makers for the use of an in-app payment system have been criticised by app developers and targeted by antitrust regulators in several countries.

Apple has previously said that 85 percent of developers on the App Store do not pay any commission and that it helps European developers to access markets and customers in 175 countries around the world through the App Store.

The UK lawsuit at the Competition Appeal Tribunal is being brought by Sean Ennis, a professor at the Centre for Competition Policy at the University of East Anglia and a former economist at the OECD, on behalf of 1,566 app developers.

He is being advised by the law firm Geradin Partners.

"Apple's charges to app developers are excessive, and only possible due to its monopoly on the distribution of apps onto iPhones and iPads," Ennis said in a statement.

"The charges are unfair in their own right and constitute abusive pricing. They harm app developers and also app buyers."

Spotify Raises Premium Plans Prices Across Several Countries

Spotify Technology on Monday raised prices for its premium plans across several countries including the United States and United Kingdom, as the music-streaming company looks to boost profitability in an uncertain economy.

The move will result in a $1 (nearly Rs. 80) price increase for Spotify's US plans, with the premium single now starting at $10.99 (nearly Rs. 900), duo at $14.99 (nearly Rs. 1,230), family at $16.99 (nearly Rs. 1,390) and the student plan at $5.99 (nearly Rs. 490).

Spotify has moved in recent months to boost margins with hundreds of layoffs and a restructuring of the podcast unit, which it had built up with billions of dollars in investment.

The price increases come at a time when streaming services, both audio and video, are under rising investor pressure to boost profitability after years of prioritizing user growth.

Rivals services from Apple and Amazon.com and Tidal have all increased prices this year, while YouTube also hiked prices last week on its monthly and annual premium plans in the US for the first time since the subscription service was launched in 2018.

Spotify, which had indicated in April that it would raise prices in 2023, had also raised prices in 46 countries last year.

The Sweden-based company is due to report its results for the second quarter on Tuesday.

In India, Spotify Premium costs Premium Mini at just Rs. 7 per day, however it is only a one-time plan which can only connect a single mobile device at once. Other plans include the Premium Individual plan at Rs. 119 per month, Premium Duo at Rs. 149 per month and Premium Family at just Rs. 179 monthly. All these three plans come with one month free trial.

Google to Pay $338.7 Million in Damages Over Chromecast Patent Case, Rules US Jury

Alphabet's Google violated a software developer's patent rights with its remote-streaming technology and must pay $338.7 million (nearly Rs. 2,770 crore) in damages, a federal jury in Waco, Texas decided on Friday.

The jury found that Google's Chromecast and other devices infringe patents owned by Touchstream Technologies related to streaming videos from one screen to another, a court representative said on Monday.

Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda said on Monday that the company will appeal the verdict and has "always developed technology independently and competed on the merits of our ideas."

Attorneys for New York-based Touchstream did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.

Touchstream, which also does business as Shodogg, said in its 2021 lawsuit that founder David Strober invented technology in 2010 to "move" videos from a small device like a smartphone to a larger device like a television.

According to the complaint, Google met with Touchstream about its technology in December 2011 but said it was not interested two months later. Google introduced its Chromecast media-streaming devices in 2013.

Touchstream said that Google's Chromecast copied its innovations and infringed three of its patents. It also said its patents were infringed by Google's Home and Nest smart speakers and third-party televisions and speakers with Chromecast capabilities.

Google denied infringing Touchstream's rights and argued that the patents are invalid.

Touchstream filed similar complaints against cable providers Comcast, Charter and Altice in Texas earlier this year. Those cases are still pending.

Janhvi Kapoor's Note Of Thanks To Fans Is All Things Beautiful: "Your Love Has Been Bawaal"

Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan's Bawaal was released on July 21 on Prime Video, Amazon's streaming platform. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, also stars Parth Siddhpura, Satendra Soni and Anjuman Saxena in critical roles. Now, days after the release, Janhvi has expressed her gratitude to all her fans for making “everything worth it”. The actress has also shared a series of stills from the film along with an elaborate note. She said, “Your love has been Bawaal. Nisha [Janhvi] ko apnane ke liye, Ajju [Varun's Ajay Dikshit] ko sudharne ke liye, humari kahaani aur kaam ko itna pyaar dene ke liye - thank you in this race to create a perception, to compete for things and for some sort of validation- some of us are lost. And, sometimes what we feel are the biggest problems, are really only our minds not allowing us to value what we have. In light of the inhuman hardships that were faced by so many through a period of history, maybe we can learn that life is fleeting; that our problems are trivial, what matters is not what you have but what you are, and that sometimes we forget to value the simplest of things till we lose it, only to realise that was our one shot at true happiness. That is the heart of our Bawaal. To see so many of you having these feelings after watching our film, makes everything worth it.”

Replying to the post, Janhvi Kapoor's friend Orhan Awatramani said, “Make me rajma chawal. [Prepare rajma chawal for me],” referring to one of the scenes in the film. Director Nitesh Tiwari's wife, writer-filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari wrote, “Janhvi,  you have captured the essence so beautifully. Shine bright and more happiness to you, my girl.” Ashwiny is also the producer and co-writer of the film.

In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee wrote, “Bawaal is a tiresome and facile yarn that goes on and on about an inept history teacher in Lucknow and his unhappy wife who, even as their marriage is falling apart, undertake a tour of World War II locations, including Anne Frank's home and an Auschwitz gas chamber. The longer their peregrination lasts the less sense it makes.” Bawaal has been jointly produced by Earthsky Pictures and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

Janhvi Kapoor will be next seen in the sports-drama Mr And Mrs Mahi alongside Rajkummar Rao. On the other hand, Varun Dhawan will share the screen space with Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the Indian version of Citadel.

Oppenheimer Outsells Barbie in Tickets Sales in India, Selling 1.4 Million Tickets During Opening Weekend

Oppenheimer has outsold Barbie in terms of ticket sales in India, as per statistics from BookMyShow. As of Sunday morning, July 23, BookMyShow offered a strong 74 percent contribution to the overall box office revenue from India the Christopher Nolan-directed biopic, selling 1.4 million tickets. Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig's candy-coated Barbie wasn't trailing that far behind either, with BookMyShow contributing an equally mammoth 70 percent to the overall box office collections in India, selling over 500,000 tickets in the country. Late last week, analysts predicted the same as well, partly because advance ticket bookings for Oppenheimer on IMAX opened ‘much earlier than usual,' which helped it take the lead.

“With Oppenheimer and Barbie finally releasing across screens nationwide, it's been a clash of the titans at the box office with both films exhibiting sheer cinematic brilliance, and fans flocking to theatres for the big screen extravaganza,” Ashish Saksena, COO – Cinemas, BookMyShow said in a press release. Last week, the online ticketing company claimed that Oppenheimer had crossed over 300,000 ticket sales in advance booking, while Barbie was at around 54,000 in ticket sales.

It's also worth mentioning that Oppenheimer was the only IMAX release this past weekend, boosting ticket sales in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, and Chennai, across the BookMyShow app. Despite the contrasting themes between it and Barbie — with the latter only releasing in English in India (no additional dubs) — moviegoers have shown strong interest in both films, with a good chunk of them opting for a double feature. When considering the next tier of cities, we've got Pune, Kochi, and Ahmedabad in the lead. The press release also stressed that the promotional material and marketing for both films had encouraged audiences to opt for the most-immersive IMAX formats, in the most non-typical timings such as 12am and 3am shows — something previously seen with Avatar: The Way of Water and the major Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

There haven't been any fully verified box office numbers for Barbie vs Oppenheimer in India yet, though numerous reports suggest that the latter is heavily leading. This is in sheer contrast to the international rankings, where Barbie opened to an impressive $337 million (about Rs. 2,763 crore) at the global box office, setting a record within the US and Canada for the biggest debut weekend of the year with a $155 million (about Rs. 1,271 crore) collection. In regions outside North America, the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-led film made $182 million (about Rs. 1,492 crore) in ticket sales. Analysts in India had predicted that the film would make around Rs. 15 crore based on the aforementioned advance booking numbers, trailing way behind Oppenheimer.

Marking Cillian Murphy's first lead role in a Nolan film, Oppenheimer made a worldwide debut of $174.1 million (about Rs. 1,427 crore), which was expected due to its R-rating for ‘prolonged nudity' and language, combined with its considerably lesser marketing, in part to the Hollywood actors' strike which commenced during the peak of the premiere events. As per Deadline, these figures reflect the highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated film year to date in the US, besting John Wick: Chapter 4. The film made $80.5 million (about Rs. 660 crore) in North America and another $93.6 million (about Rs. 767 crore) overseas.

Both Barbie and Oppenheimer are now showing in theatres worldwide.

JioBook (2023) India Launch Date Set for July 31; Amazon Microsite Teases Upcoming 4G Laptop

Jiobook was launched in India in New Delhi at the India Mobile Congress in October 2022. Now, the country's largest telecom operator is set to launch the second generation of its Android-powered laptop. An Amazon microsite teasing the product recently went live on the website teasing some of its details while showing the laptop in a blue colour option. While it doesn't appear that the JioBook (2023) will arrive with many visible design changes, it is expected that the new device will boast internal upgrades. The company also released the JioBharat 4G smartphone earlier this month, priced at Rs. 999 and is expected to launch a 5G handset in the coming months.

According to the Amazon microsite, one of the biggest physical differences between the 2022 and 2023 models of the JioBook 4G laptop will be in weight. The upcoming device, confirmed to launch in the country on July 31, is listed to weigh 990g, which is much lighter than the preceding model that weighed 1.2kg.

The laptop is confirmed to run on Android. and will feature the company's JioOS interface that was also present on the original JioBook. The microsite also confirms it will support 4G connectivity like its predecessor. Jio also claims that the second-generation JioBook will offer all-day battery-life.

According to a 91Mobiles report, the upcoming JioBook is expected to be priced under Rs. 20,000. There are no other details related to the device's specifications or its pricing and availability. Notably, the first-generation JioBook launched at a price of Rs. 15,799.

The JioBook that made its debut in India last year was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC paired with Adreno 610 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. It sports an 11.6-inch HD (1366 x 768 pixels) display. It packs a 5,000mAh battery, which the company claims offers more than 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.
